“We learn the ropes of life by untying the knots”

“If life hands you lemons make lemonade,” was the theme of a fantastic week for our Gateway children. This event was sponsored by our special friends from the local Episcopal Church, and featured a full week of music, arts, crafts and positive learning experiences for our children. An amazing presentation, which featured the talent and creativity of our children, was enjoyed by staff, board and friends on Fri., July 10. Thanks to the Episcopal church for its commitment to helping enrich the lives of our Gateway children!

2nd Annual Gateway Children’s Services
Cornhole Tournament
The second annual GCS Cornhole Tournament was held on Saturday, Aug. 15, as part of the Small Town America Festival on the Civic Center Lawn. This year’s tournament featured 27 teams in a double-elimination format using standard American Cornhole Organization (ACO) rules.
The top prize of $750 went to the winning team of Anthony Hash from Campbellsville, KY., and Lester Price of New Haven, KY. Dale Smith of Campbellsville and Larry Wise (Elkhorn, KY.), took home the second place prize of $250.
Gateway Children’s Services thanks its sponsors and all the participants for helping make their second annual fundraiser a successful event. Proceeds from the tournament will help offset reductions in state funding.

Gateway Children’s Services serves male and female teenagers from the ages of 12 to 17 from all over the state of Kentucky. Gateway’s treatment program provides prevention services and family re-unification, as well as shelter care and assessment. Teenagers are placed here for behavioral issues, beyond parental control, beyond school control, or abuse and neglect that has led them to be removed from their home. They must be stable, able to participate in their own self-care, and able to function in a school, treatment and group setting. At this time, children must be placed by a court order, the Department for Juvenile Justice. or the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
Donna Payne , State Farm Insurance,  presented a $2,000 check to  Gateway Children’s Services.   Accepting this contribution is Dustin Johnson, Program Manager, Shelia Albright, Program Director and Joe Gomes, Chief Operations Officer. This grant will be used to help fund the new program called Camp Collide (Confidence-Opportunity-Leadership-Learning-Independence-Determination-Effort) implemented by volunteers and Gateway Children’s Service’s staff.   Camp Collide helps keep Gateway children engaged in positive skill-building activities during periods such as summer and holidays when regular school hours are reduced.
Thank You!
